Amanda Price: A Journey Through Photography and Wildlife

My name is Amanda Price, and I’d like to share the story of my journey in photography.

I was fortunate to grow up in Bozeman, Montana, surrounded by the beauty and diversity of wildlife. Whether it was exploring Big Sky or Yellowstone National Park, I was captivated by the animals—enchanted by their natural elegance, behaviors, and intelligence. This fascination fueled my interest in studying wildlife, from researching animals and watching documentaries to aspiring to see them firsthand.

In my sophomore year of high school, while registering for courses, I impulsively decided to enroll in Photographic Imaging, my first introduction to photography. This decision proved to be a turning point, as I quickly developed a deep passion for the craft. By mid-year, I invested in my first camera: a Canon DSLR EOS 4000D with an 18-55mm kit lens. The experience was transformative, and I owe much of that to my high school instructor, Karl Schwartz. His guidance and enthusiasm helped nurture my love for photography. I followed this with an advanced photography course during my senior year, and sought Karl’s advice on my next steps. He recommended Northwest College, a small institution in Powell, Wyoming.

At Northwest, I enrolled in their intensive two-year commercial photography program. The curriculum provided comprehensive training in everything from managing a portrait studio to handling product photography. I gained proficiency in industry-standard software like Photoshop, expanded my technical skills, and honed my ability to engage with clients professionally. Through this program, I deepened my understanding of photography, studio equipment, and the demands of the industry.

I graduated from Northwest College in May 2025 with an Associate's Degree in Photographic Communications, ready to embark on the next phase of my career.
